In order to fly on line, you need to download and install your prefered software, at this time VATSIM supports users of Flight Simulator (2002 to FSX), X-Plane, as well as the dedicated B747 simulator.

There are various pogrames wihch are either required or optional and we list the most common ones below.
VATEUD TD will not go into any particular training topics relating to these applications, as each official site has extensive and, in many cases, dedicated translated manuals and documentations.

For the moment the following software is available

The main software applications are available for download free of charge. VATSIM currently support two software packages for pilots. Squawkbox and FS INN. We suggest you download them both and install them then choose the one you prefer, there is no harm in them both reciding on your hard disc at the same time.

If you want to interact with ATC and other pilots by voice, rather than by text you need a stand alone voice programe called Advance Voice Client. (this is however built in with Squawkbox version 3)

Pilot Software

Squawkbox additionlly requires the user to download and install FSUIPC. FSUIPC is a utility which is not availalble free of charge as a user license needs to be purchased. Chance is that you already have installed FSUIPC as it is required for a number of commerical aircraft add-ons.

Servinfo is a utility which allows you to see all on line traffic and ATC prescence that is on line. It will also show you the expected traffic patterns for selected airfields and the current weather. very useful when planing your flights.

FS Navigator,  some will love it others will not, however there is no doubt this is one of the best add on programes ever developed for Flight Simulator. The trial version allows you to run it 20 times before having to register. We suggest you try it out.

Useful Tool(s):

When you fly on line, you will want to fly using the real weather at any given time and place. To achieve this you can make use of the buildt in Weather generated by FSINN or Squawkbox or enhance this weather by making use of one of the existing pay ware utilities that can be downloaded on various sites. there are several to chose from, but the most generally used are Active Sky, and FSMeteo.

Weather Tools(s)

When you fly on line IFR you obviously need to follow certain routing or waypoints to get from point A to point B, one way is to write all the waypoints and routes by reading Aeronautical on route charts, but the easiest way is to use on of the Route Planning Tools around. VRoute is the newsest and undisputably the best free ware route planning tool available.

Route Planning Tools(s)

We strongly urge all new pilots to visit and read the various very informative chapters and lessons on the VATSIM Pilot Resource Center. These are written in English but there are links to different language files to be found.

Finally VATSIM network help and support can be found at the official VATSIM forums

Welcome to Vatsim and Happy Flying
